Earthy Tones

Michael notes that we will be seeing several trends from 2021 carrying over into 2022. At the top of his list, is earthy tones. Designers are achieving a rustic look with natural stones such as travertine and limestone, accenting them with earthy tones such as clay, greens, blues and terracotta.

Natural Stone

Evolving from the trending neutral tones we saw in 2021, natural stone and natural stone look tiles will dominate the market in 2022. Michael highlights statuario and calacatta as his top picks, due to their heavy veining and effortless luxury look. Sizing will range anywhere from 600x1200mm to large format slabs of 3200x1600mm. It’s all about creating seamless or discontinuous visual effects that leave an impression.

Terrazzo

Terrazzo and terrazzo look tile has been steadily growing in popularity in recent years, moving from mainly commercial projects into residential. Michael says terrazzo is here to stay in 2022, and we’ll be seeing it in those trending earthy tones, beige, and ivory with larger flecks of marble.

Lineal Lines

In 2022, designers are being braver with colour and experimenting with lineal lines, so the humble white subway tile has been turned on its head. Literally. Vertically laid subway tiles, or finger mosaics, are perfect to create height in small spaces, and are ideal for curved walls, another hot trend this year.

Michael’s experience and eye for style cannot be understated. Throughout his career, Michael has personally been involved in many of Adelaide’s iconic commercial projects. With this experience, it is hard to pass his thoughts on what is set to shape 2022.
